Mt Ngauruhoe - was made famous as Mt Doom in the Lord Of The Rings movies.  Its symetrical shape dominates the skyline. Mt Tongariro - is the lower one in the mountain chain and is more widely used in the summer for tramping.  The famous Tongariro Crossing traverses between Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro and around Tongariro.
